Evolving Participatory Design. A report from Berlin, reaching beyond!

Taking off from a site typical for Berlins crossroads of top-down and bottom-up cultures, the talk focuses the increasing everyday, yet situational urbanism here and abroad, and discusses trajectories of self-determined and common oriented design meant to foster radical-democratic and just, holistic-sustainable societies yet to come.

Along the arts and politics driven, and community based (ex-squat) project K77, the event and publication Under Construction. Strategies of Participative Architecture and Spatial Appropriation, the civic-action concept Forum K 82 - center for cooperative, self-determined education and work, and through introducing into Community Design in the US, the talk argues to bring activists and architects practices, research and educational work, political and legal, economical and ecological discourses into an immanent, critical and productive exchange; and to foster such discourses to become self-evident for the professionals in planning and building of today and tomorrow.
